Nesting Time in the Davis Wetlands
The City of Davis Wetlands will be open for a free guided tour, Saturday May 5th from 9:00-11:00am, to allow the public a glimpse of the many resident species preparing for their next generation.
The tour leader will help visitors identify birds by sound as well as sight. The distinctive scolding of the tiny Marsh Wren is a good example. This little bird is extremely territorial and takes all threats to its space seriously. Marsh Wren males may build fifteen or more nests in cattails or tules in an attempt to woo a suitor, but only a couple of these will ultimately be used.
