Renowned Bay Area Ridge Trail hike guide Doris Klein will lead a trek through the Lynch Canyon Open Space, on Sunday, September 9, from 9 am to noon. Klein will guide visitors along creek-side woodlands, across rolling hills to spectacular ridge top views. Solano County park rangers maintain the 1,039 acre property in partnership with the Solano Land Trust, which owns the site. Klein prefers a pace that allows time to enjoy the scenery and use her expertise in native plants, from wildflowers to majestic oak, willow, buckeye and bay trees. Watch for soaring golden eagles and hawks, grey fox and coyote hunting jack rabbits and ground squirrels. A mix of swallows and other song birds are common in these undeveloped hills between Fairfield and Vallejo. Hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians share the trails with grazing cattle, but there's plenty of solitude in this huge expanse where the noise of the roads and crowds disappear around the first corner. The hike begins in the Lynch Canyon parking lot at 9 am and will run two to three hours. Binoculars, good hiking shoes, sunscreen/hat, and insect repellant are recommended. The only restroom on site is in the lot where you'll meet, and there is no potable water, so bring your own. Some trails have irregular surfaces and the route through this historic cattle ranch involves a bit of a climb. Reservations are not required.
