The Yolo Basin Foundation is recruiting volunteers to train as docents for the guided monthly tours of the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. Anyone with a passion for wetland conservation and an enthusiasm for sharing this with others should consider joining the team of Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area volunteers. Current docents are also invited to participate in order to refresh and update their knowledge of the ever-changing Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area. The two-part training will take place on Tuesday September 11th 6:30-9:30pm and Saturday September 15th 9am-12:30pm at the Department of Fish and Game Headquarters 45211 County Rd 32B (Chiles Rd) Davis. The training is free to all participants, but spaces are limited, so reservations are required in advance. The initial training session will provide participants with background information on the significance of the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area, the Pacific Flyway, and plant and animal species found within the area. The second session will include a tour of the Yolo Wildlife Area, covering issues such as how the Department of Fish and Game actively manages the area for shorebird habitat and water control. Trainees will also be taught how to lead or assist on a tour and manage a tour group. For more information and to reserve a place at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area docent training, please call Sarah Ross, Volunteer Coordinator at (530) 757-4828 or visit the Yolo Basin Foundation website at www.yolobasin.org.
