Volunteers are needed on Saturday morning, December 1st to help Access Adventure and the Solano Land Trust demolish the old corrals at Rush Ranch and make way for safer structures for resident horses and human guests. Starting at 9 am, volunteers will check in for assignments to tear down rickety old fences, sort and stack wood and metal fencing for recycling, and complete work on new paddock fencing. Volunteers with farm or construction experience are asked to come at 8 am to help plan, and then supervise a team. Work will end with clean up between 2 and 3 pm. Hot dogs and chips will be available for volunteers after 1 pm. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old, and those under 18 must have a permission form signed by parent or guardian, and supervision by a team leader. Please bring your own sturdy leather gloves and any of the following tools (labeled with your name): crowbar, pry bar, claw hammer, wire cutters, screwdriver, hand saw suitable for rough cut lumber fencing, 5 gallon buckets to collect nails, wheelbarrow, wagon, and magnet brooms. If you can bring power tools (skill saw, portable drill, extension cords), let us know they are coming and bring eye protection. Only adults can operate power tools. RSVP to Volunteer Coordinator Teri Engbring at email teri@solanolandtrust.org or phone 707-432-0150, ext. 200 if you are coming – especially with a group. New fencing is provided by a generous grant from the Syar Foundation for draft horses of Access Adventure, and all-volunteer program that operates the equestrian operation at the Solano Land Trust's historic Rush Ranch. Founded in 2005 by Michael Muir, great-grandson of John Muir, Access Adventure offers people with mobility challenges opportunities to enjoy nature with rides on horse drawn, wheelchair accessible carriages, at no charge. A new 4-H Club, sponsored by Access Adventure, gives young people the opportunity to learn how to care for, and drive the draft horses that now live at Rush Ranch
