Biking Tour of The City of Davis Wetlands

Pedal power is what it's all about at the City of Davis Wetlands on Saturday June the 2nd 9:00-11:00am. The Davis Wetlands will be open for a once a year opportunity to go ‘birding by bike'. This tour replaces the monthly auto-tour of the City of Davis Wetlands.

Participants on the tour will have the opportunity to hear as well as see Marsh Wrens, Killdeers, American Avocets, Western Meadowlarks and many other bird species, while getting some exercise at the same time. Cyclists should also look for the telltale signs of the Loggerhead Shrike. Also known as ‘Butcher Birds', shrikes use barbed-wire on fences to impale small reptiles, rodents and insects to eat at a later time.

Cyclists will be required to wear helmets. All roads throughout the area are unpaved. Visitors are asked to stay with their tour group and to avoid disturbing nesting birds that may be just off the trails and roads.

All those wishing to join this free tour should meet a few minutes before 9:00 am at the gate in front of the City's wastewater treatment plant, east of the Yolo County landfill on Road 28H. No reservations are required. Directions to the tour are available on the Yolo Basin Foundation website at www.yolobasin.org. Tour participants coming from Sacramento should take the I-80 West. Turn right at the first exit, 32A, at the west end of the Yolo Causeway. Turn left at the end of the off-ramp onto Road 105. Follow 105 across the railway line until reaching a T-intersection at the end of the road. Turn right onto Road 28 H.

Tour participants should bring binoculars, water (no potable water on site), sun screen and field guides. Porta-potties are available along the tour route.
