In 1952\, there were 60\,000 known cases of polio in the U.S. In 1980\, there were no known infectious cases of polio in America. \n\n\n The March of Dimes changed its mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects\, premature birth and infant mortality. \n\n\n In the United States: 500\,000 infants are born premature each year\, and one in eight babies are born premature. More babies born in the U.S. die before their first birthday than in 27 other nations! That is why I'm asking (begging) you to support me in the March of Dimes annual Walk America which has a new\, more deserving name March for Babies! \n\n\n Sacramento's March for Babies will take place April 26th\, beginning at 9am on the steps of the State Capitol. Many of you know how closely I work with the local March of Dimes in planning Sacramento magazine's Best of Sacramento Party. Every November\, we throw Sacramento's biggest party of the year and all of the proceeds go to the local March of Dimes.\n\n\n Through this one event\, we have raised two and a half million dollars for the March of Dimes since 1999! I am fortunate to work for a company that is so passionate about giving back to the community! March for Babies is an additional way that I can help the March of Dimes raise not only funds\, but awareness! \n\n\n In Sacramento alone\, 5800 walkers took part in this walk in 2007\, and raised $1\,340\,000 for the March of Dimes!!
