DESCRIPTION:This is a low pressure opportunity to learn more about Yolo County licensed foster care and the process for adopting infants\, children and teens from out-of-home placement. Common myths regarding the requirements for fostering and adoption will be addressed\, including "no\, 50 is not too old to adopt an infant"\, along with you do not need to own a home\, you can be in a single parent or living in an alternative relationship\, and yes\, both parents can work outside the home\; our children\n    just like birth kids\, can go to good quality daycare\; in fact we have a County subsidy program that can help defer child care costs.\n\n\n     Along with demystifying myths\, the rewards and challenges of parenting infants and children placed into protective custody will be highlighted. Several foster/adoptive parents will share their experiences with fostering and what it has meant to them and their families. National Foster Care Month in May provides an opportunity for people all across the nation to get involved\, whether as foster parents\, volunteers\, mentors\, employers\, or in other ways.\n\n\n     It is also an opportunity to show appreciation for the dedication of the foster families who care for these children and youth and the social workers who support them. There are 513\,000 American youth in foster care. No matter how much time you have to give\, you can do something positive that will "Change a Lifetime" for a young person in foster care.
