Dear Chamber Membership,

As we enter the last few months of this year, we thought it would be good to give you an update on the progress we are making on Project Pride. The West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce embarked on an aggressive approach to provide necessary leadership from the private sector to help the City of West Sacramento accomplish some of the key goals and objectives that they are working on to revitalize the West Sacramento Community.

The projects selected were chosen by the Chamber body in conjunction with the City of West Sacramento staff and based on our ability to make a difference in helping them to be accomplished. There is real momentum and some of the committees are already making a real difference. The intent is to help speed up the revitalization efforts, remove barriers preventing them from happening and to bring the community together in accomplishing a common goal.

Administratively, Project Pride is conducting monthly sub-committee meetings as well as an update meeting for the related Chair people of the committee. We will be sending out monthly updates as to the progress we are making and are in the process of designing a website dedicated to this effort.

The Chamber Leadership asks each of you who are doing business in the community to get involved. If you or a staff member of your company can participate in one of these committees, we can make all these wonderful projects happen making our community a better place to live work and to play. Let’s make West Sacramento even better than it already is and let’s do so together!

Warren Smith

Business and Economic Development and Retention Subcommittee
The subcommittee is working on the PBID and plans to implement it in 2009. Bryan Turner (on behalf of the committee) contacted Toby Ross, City Manager, to discuss using the consultant that did some work when the PBID was evaluated a few years back. Toby Ross is going to speak with city staff and follow-up with Bryan.

Community Improvements
The Sign Workshops that were held in October/November helped in getting the word out about the new ordinance that goes in to affect May 1. Various people attended from businesses throughout the city and others have contacted the city to find out if their business has proper signage. Another series of workshops will be held in the next month or two and we plan to notify property owners and encourage them to attend along with business owners.

Larry Brooks, Code Enforcement with the City of West Sacramento, mentioned that the Community Response Team and Code Enforcement have been very busy and positive things are happening in the city.

Communications/Marketing/Public Relations
The Chamber Board would like the committee to pursue a plan to implement some activity/event in the downtown area along/near West Capitol to coincide with the improvements for the West Capitol Avenue Streetscape project; construction starts this summer. The subcommittee will put together a Business Plan for the Board to review. Several people expressed interest in helping with the Business Plan and working on the activity/event; if anyone else is interested please contact Andrea Verdon of PMA, Inc., at 916-375-0200.
